Lent, Holy Week, and Easter at St. Stephen’s and the Vine

I invite you, therefore, in the name of the Church, to the observance of a holy Lent, by self-examination and repentance; by prayer, fasting, and self-denial; and by reading and meditating on God’s holy Word.

March 5, 2025 is Ash Wednesday and the beginning of Lent. You are invited to join us as St. Stephen’s marks this holy season with several special services, classes, and events.

Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper
Tuesday, March 4
5 – 7 p.m.

All are invited to enjoy a delicious pancake supper, hosted by the Men’s Group of St. Stephen’s. Meals are $7 per person. This tradition began as a way for Christians to use up all the rich foods in their pantry before fasting for Lent begins.

Ash Wednesday Service
Wednesday, March 5
6 p.m.

Begin the holy season of Lent with our Ash Wednesday service and the imposition of ashes. The ashes are a sign of penitence and a reminder of our mortality.

You’re invited to join us after the service for a soup and salad dinner in the parish hall. You are welcome to bring food to share at the meal.

Lenten Book Study:
Reading the Psalms Again for the First Time
Sundays during Lent (beginning March 9)
11:15 a.m. (in the Banner Room at St. Stephen’s)

The Rev. Aaron Rogers invites you to come together after our Sunday worship services during Lent to discuss the book Reading the Psalms Again for the First Time, by J. Clinton McCann, Jr.

This book focuses on how the Psalms portray genuine divinity as an unwavering commitment to justice, defined as attention to and provision for the most vulnerable.

The author of the book, J. Clinton McCann, is a professor at Eden Seminary in Webster Groves. McCann will join us in-person for one of our classes.

ECW Gathering:
Lenten Bullet Journaling with Laura Watt
Friday, April 11
6:30 p.m.

All women are invited to join our evening ECW gathering this month as Laura Watt, parishioner at St. Stephen’s and the Vine, leads a hands-on workshop on The Art of Bullet Journaling, a hobby she began almost a decade ago and one she loves to share with others.

Laura will be sharing her journal samples and her story of how she began this exciting craft. She will have samples of the many supplies that can be acquired to enhance your journal creations and the event will include starting your very own BUJO.

There will be attendance prizes, so please sign up at church or contact Laura at laurawatt1206@gmail.com
