This past Saturday, September 19, Susan Fazio, Kate Steele and I attended a Diocesan Workshop for a year long initiative called This Young Church Project about exploring new ways of worshiping God intergenerationally. Linda Gaviner is also a TYCP team member and we would welcome more members!
Intergenerational worship is something we already do at St. Stephen’s because it means worshiping praising God together across generations. The question is, how can we do it more intentionally, so that people of all ages can experience the deep and abiding love of God? We learned on Saturday that the 5 Hallmarks of Intergenerational Worship are Intentionality, Relationality, Dignified Reciprocity, Flexibility and Empowerment.
This Sunday, September 27, the Rev. Erin Pickersgill, the leader of The Young Church Project, will be our preacher. Erin is the Associate Priest at Grace Episcopal in Kirkwood, working mostly with children, youth, and families. She is a church mutt, having grown up in several different denominations and churchmanships. While living in the UK for two decades, she felt a call to the priesthood and trained to be a Church of England priest. Erin and family – husband David, daughters Liberty and Frances – moved to St. Louis (her hometown) a few years ago and she was ordained into the Episcopal church. Erin had the honor of serving as the Diocese’s Ministry Developer for Children and Youth, and is still a contractor for some ongoing projects like Camp Firebird, Safe Church and This Young Church Project.
