Visitors and Newcomers
Not just neighbors, but friends.
Greetings Friend,
Welcome to the Episcopal Church of St. Stephen’s and the Vine in Ferguson. My name is Pastor Teresa Danieley. We are a Christian community of Jesus followers who are committed to living out our baptism by being faithful to the early creeds, following in the apostles teaching, continuing in prayers and the breaking of bread, and seeking to serve Christ in all people. We believe that we are all on a journey and, as Christians, the waters of our baptism carry us out into the world with the Holy Spirit in our sails, and Christ as our guide.
In Ferguson, we are known for our intimate connection with the community which is demonstrated through our passionate community outreach which we call the Vine and through our dynamic community partners. We experience hospitality as a gift and strive to nourish our neighbors in the same way God loves us with warmth, compassion, and care. We seek to serve each other and the world and that begins with you, our neighbor.
Worship is how we honor God and remember God’s extravagant welcome to all of creation. On Sunday, we read the sacred stories, sing praise in hymns and songs, share the peace, and experience God’s welcome at The Eucharist or Holy Communion. During the week, we study, pray and serve to deepen our discipleship. We break bread every third Tuesday (brunch) and Sunday (dinner) at our FREE Clay Cafe community meals to remind ourselves that God’s table is in the world. You are welcome to join us in this rhythm when you can.
Thank you for visiting our site. If you have already visited St. Stephen’s and the Vine, I hope that you found warm smiles and a place of joyful hospitality. If you are looking for a faith community to join, we pray you consider growing with us. If you have not visited yet, please know whoever you are and wherever you come from, you are welcome here. The table is prepared for you.
In Christ who knits us all together, Teresa+

Frequently Asked Questions:
Q: What should I wear?
A: People wear a variety of clothing styles. Wear what works for you. We are glad you are worshiping with us.
Q: Where should I sit?
A: There are no reserved seats. Please sit in whatever part of the church makes you feel comfortable. If you seat closer to the front, you’ll make our priest happy.
Q: What are the two books everybody is using?
A: The red book is the Book of Common Prayer (BCP), which contains the order of service and all the prayers spoken together. The blue book is the hymnal. The numbers in the service bulletin indicate where to find each song. Occasionally we may use a hymn outside the hymnal and the bulletin will indicate where to find it.
Q: I have trouble getting up and down. Is there a lot of movement in the service?
A: Traditionally, members of the congregation stand to sing or recite, or kneel in prayer. You may do as much as you can. You are invited to do what makes you most comfortable.
Q: Am I allowed to take Communion? What do I do?
A: Everyone is welcome to take communion at the altar. We repeat: ALL are welcome!! To take the bread, hold out your hands with the left on top of the right (or right on top of the left if you are left-handed). The priest will place the bread in your palm. You may place it in your mouth or have the server dip it into the chalice. If you would prefer, you may have a blessing without taking the bread. Simply cross your arms over your chest and the priest will know to bless you.
Q: Are children welcome in church?
A: Absolutely!
